Dailies #1: The 2022 Introduction

Hi there! Let's begin with a few facts about myself and this here website.

1. It is 5:52am on Friday, Feb 4, 2022, and I have not slept a wink. I spent the night thinking about life and how it's high time I mixed things up.

2. This website has been on the backburner for the last 6 years or so. And tonight of all nights, I've decided to unearth it in all of its unfinished glory.

3. My 8th grade teacher was right when she called me a procrastinating perfectionist (my logic: why bother doing something if I can't do it perfectly from the get go?) But that changes starting today!

4. I am a very self conscious writer, who enjoys fluffy writing, lengthy lists, and the oxford comma.

5. For the next year, I will be writing everyday in an attempt to wrangle my innermost thoughts and step outside of my comfort zone. So yes, mom, that means I will be going outside more.

6. There are parts of this website that frankly do not work. YET. Slow and steady, baby.

If you managed to stick around, welcome! For most of my 20's, I've tried to start my own website-- my wee corner of the internet and home for my scrambled thoughts. But amidst the boom of vlogging, posts, reels, and influencers, I got so preoccupied with finding my special niche and gimmicky premise that I inevitably got intimidated and stuck a very long pin on that idea. Until now. I've blown the dust off this cobwebbed-site (lol) to begin this incredibly ambitious year-long experiment. Of course, you're invited to participate! So what does this challenge include?

Here are the rules (well, suggested guidelines, really.)

1. Until Feb 4 of 2023, you are to write every single day. Be prolific, not perfect. As they say, you miss every shot you don't take.

2. If the muses don't sing at your behest and you're truly out of creative juice, log a new word or fact. Write a one stanza-long poem about an emotion you're feeling. Sum up your day in one word. Trust me, you'll look back a year from now and wonder how you lived your life without knowing what "brummagem" or "yogh" meant.

3. Take this time to explore and question EVERYTHING. What new, healthy habits do you want to build? What things are you ashamed of and why? Is a hotdog a taco or a sandwich? Leave no stone unturned.

4. If all else fails, think of these daily entries as your "dailies." If you've played video games or dabbled in Neopets or Animal Crossing, you might've been exposed to the idea of doing your daily round of activities, whether that's grabbing a free omelette for your Neopet or talking to the neighbors in your island. Life is smoother with routine upkeep.

That's all for now. See you same time, same place. I'm here everyday.

xoxo
